“We saw the impact of the omicron variance lessons as nearly every vertical and metric improved from the downward trend during January and February,” said Ryan Weber, director of client success, Rio SEO. “One of the biggest improvements across all verticals was clicks for directions, which shows that consumers are willing and able to engage directly with shopping, dining and travel. Additionally, March typically sees an increase in travel and dining out with spring break and March Madness.”
In addition, Rio SEO reviewed year-on-year trends, seeing continued increases in list views and searches across most verticals. Hotels, service businesses, fast food restaurants, health care brands, and sit-down restaurants collectively saw increases in both total searches and total views. Collectively, the verticals look at:
“Rising prices for essential items such as food, energy and travel costs may have contributed to the year-on-year decline seen in retail search metrics,” Weber added. “It will be interesting to see how local search and spending trends are affected in the coming months by inflation, volatile oil prices, and rising interest rates. The economy has seen a lot of momentum recently and consumer confidence appears to be underpinned by strong employment growth. . We have high hopes that local businesses will be able to thrive throughout 2022.”
