Ezoic Achieves Net Zero, Offsets Carbon Emissions by 100% and Invests in Three Ambitious Climate Action Projects

SAN DIEGO–( BUSINESS WIRE )–Ezoic, an AI-powered technology platform for digital publishers and founder of Tech Zero, a group of tech companies committed to US climate action, recently achieved a Net Zero carbon footprint and invested in three high-impact projects that actively remove carbon dioxide from the Earth’s atmosphere. Ezoic has successfully offset its annual carbon emissions generated by its operations worldwide, as well as the servers hosting over 35,000 customer domains that use its website monetization platform.

In 2021, Ezoic launched a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and committed to support two of the United Nations’ 2015 Sustainable Development Goals – climate action and quality education – which are overwhelmingly supported by Ezoic’s 300+ employees worldwide.

Ezoic started by reducing single-use plastic, composting food waste, recycling broken electronics and regularly donating to the Ocean Foundation’s approved Blue Carbon program. Since Ezoic passed the carbon neutrality qualification at the beginning of the year, the company aimed to achieve Net Zero.

Ezoic partnered with Supercritical to calculate its overall carbon footprint because it serves a network of online publishers with a collective customer base of more than 1.3 billion monthly unique visitors, according to Quantcast. Ezoic invested in three Supercritical certified high impact programs to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. These include a reforestation program in East Africa, a biochar project focusing on net-negative technologies that remove carbon on an industrial scale, and an improved weather project, one of the first large-scale attempts to improve weather conditions on land.

A recent IPCC report confirmed that, in addition to ambitious reductions, carbon removal is essential to meet the climate goals of the Paris Agreement. As a technology platform company, most of Ezoic’s scope 3 emissions (activities not owned or controlled by Ezoic) are primarily server emissions from the domains it serves worldwide. Ezoic also plans to continuously assess which suppliers are following this reduction plan.

Dwayne Lafleur, Founder and CEO of Ezoic, says, “CSR is about companies using their capabilities and resources to make an impact. These may be larger projects, but they are also simple things that any business could do to make a real difference.

Now that Ezoic is zero-emissions, Emily Brennan, the company’s director of corporate social responsibility, says Ezoic can also help its customers make an impact on climate action.

“We are designing a calculator to help customers estimate their overall carbon footprint and enable them to purchase their own carbon removal credits. Our long-term goal is to be a Net Zero tool for all digital publishers,” says Brennan. “It can be overwhelming for people to think about how to alleviate some of the world’s biggest challenges, but companies like ours have the resources and network to make an impact. Our CSR goals are to lead climate action and develop educational programs to help people start their own online businesses.
