The hotly contested Pennsylvania senate race between incumbent John Fetterman and challenger Dr. Oz has taken an interesting turn, with SEO expert Lance Bachmann weighing in on Google’s involvement.
Philadelphia Magazine recently interviewed Bachmann, the former CEO and Founder of 1SEO Digital Agency, about John Fetterman’s campaign and their dominance of digital search results. A Google search for Oz will show a slew of paid Fetterman ads dominating the top spots.
Bachmann didn’t hold back when asked for his opinion on the matter. “You just have to bid up your own name to make sure it always appears in the top position,” he said. “It just shows you how behind the times some people are and how [obscenity] some of these campaigns are doing their job.”
Bachmann went on to say that he believes that modern political campaigns are not taking advantage of the power of the digital sector to influence the outcome of a race. “I told you, these people are [obscenity], man,” says Bachmann. “Their campaign managers are raising all this money and losing. Obama and Trump had the two best digital campaigns of our lifetimes.”
Bachmann’s comments come after a Philadelphia Magazine report that (depending on your Google search history, ad blockers, and personal device) shows a slew of anti-Dr. Oz ads directing users to John Fetterman’s campaign website. These ads appear in an overwhelming number of highly contested top search results locations.
Conversely, if Dr. Oz’s campaign spent more of their campaign funds to bid on certain keywords, they could see those negative ads buried deeper in the search results. “The second page of Google is the best place to hide a corpse,” jokes Bachmann. “I did it for a famous rapper. And I also did it for a certain Philadelphia restaurateur who had a lot of negative information about him.”
