For many reasons it can be tempting to stop doing SEO for a while – maybe it is a budget, you may have had a bad experience with your SEO vendor or you may not see the results that you thought you would they see.
When that happens, should you rest SEO? And if you do, what are the consequences?
The answer: SEO is a marathon, not a sprint
SEO is like running a marathon. If you stop because you get tired quickly, your competitors will pass you by. When you take a long time, the competition continues – and it can be hard to find it.
Of course, no one is forcing you to do SEO. But you have to think about what you are against before you decide to stop wasting time and money on it.
What you are against is 12 changes to Google Search on average every day, millions of competitors by keyword and website maintenance which if not done will result in a quality site. evil, which makes it even more difficult to set conditions.
That is why the secret of SEO success is patience. SEO can only stop if Google stops changing things and all your competition ends.
Three reasons you shouldn’t stop doing SEO
Here are three things to consider before taking a break from your SEO:
1. There’s an average of 12 changes to search per day
It’s no secret that Google is constantly updating its search engine. In 2020 alone, Google conducted more than 600,000 experiments that “completed more than 4,500 search engine optimization.” That’s an average of 12 changes a day, people.

In all cases, following and understanding how these changes affect a website is not the core competence of many businesses. So, you need SEO skills.
That is why SEOs spend many hours reviewing and analyzing Google’s changes so that their customers or employers can benefit from that knowledge.
If you abruptly give up SEO, your website will not stay in Google’s storm for too long.
2. You have millions of competitors – yes, millions!
Try searching on Google and see how many results there are. In fact, any question can have millions or billions of results. They are your competitors online.
Of those millions of results, your content needs to appear on the front page. And if you want to click even more, your content must be among the first few results on the page.

Add to that the fact that you need to be an expert on a variety of search terms (like Google Images, for example) and all the search features that appear on the front page – not just the 10 blue links – to compete effectively.
Every day you stop your SEO is the day your competition can spend money and resources going forward.
Since it can take five to seven months to start seeing the results you want in SEO, it is a time you will not be able to waste it. (Moreover, some key words take longer to set the standard; it has taken us two years to assist customer status No. 1 for “games”).
Maintaining your website is a full-time job
While it is true that quality websites can build quality over time in terms of links and traffic, you can not put it and forget it in SEO.
You need to keep track of the technology that runs your website and the content on it regularly. And how often it depends on the type of website you have and what kind of content you have.
For example, if you have what Google calls “your money or your life”, you will need to review it and update it regularly.
Also consider that every website will need SEO technical updates frequently to ensure it works at high speed for search engineers and end users. Consider: servers, network distribution, content management systems, web crawling, etc.
Remember that Google has stated in Search Quality Rater Guidelines that “old” sites that are neglected or discarded or that unsafe and inaccurate / misleading information are the result of poor page rank.
Because Google cares that websites are the latest and the best experience, if you stop SEO, you run the risk of affecting your ranking ability.
When businesses want to rest on SEO, it is usually because they do not see the results they want. And that is often due to other factors such as budget deficits, hiring the wrong SEO or inconsistent expectations.
If you make a 5% to 10% of your income, however, and work with the right SEO marketer, you should be able to get the results you want. And those results often end up costing the business.
When SEO drives money, stopping SEO is not always the question that any business thinks about. If you consider SEO to be an important marketing strategy for the life of your business, you will often win a marathon. If you give up, you lose.
